The plot is simple, similar to old fairy tales: the antagonist is an evil witch, and a pair of twins are tasked with defeating her. These twins in question are Will and Rowan Kenrith, both planeswalkers who have lost their spark.

Now existing as a legendary creature. Will, Scion of Peace, is an Azorius Wizard that reduces the mana cost of white or blue spells based on the life gained during that turn. With a three-mana cost and a 2/4 body, Will can find a place in Mono-White Life gain decks that choose to splash Blue. His twin sister Rowan represents the Rakdos faction with her new version, Rowan, Scion of War.

Like Will, she reduces the mana cost of Black or Red spells but is tied to life lost instead. While archetypes centered around self-sacrifice aren’t plentiful. Rowan has the potential to shape such an archetype during her time in Standard.

Unlike the original Eldraine set, which focused on both artifacts and enchantments, Wilds of Eldraine leans more heavily into enchantment themes:

Sagas, often seen as a refined version of Planeswalkers, play a significant role in the set. Drawing from classic and reimagined fairy tales. Each Standby Phase unlocks a chapter, providing a distinct effect. “Three Blind Mice” finds its home in mono-White token decks. While “Korvold and the Noble Thief” offers ramp and card advantage to Red, a color that traditionally lacks both.

Praised for its clean design, Wilds of Eldraine features Adventures. Once confined to creatures, Adventures now extend to enchantments as well. As seen in the Virtue This cycle features five monocoloured enchantments. Each with an Adventure counterpart, reshaping the narrative around this card type.

In 2019, the Food archetype and its associated mechanics dominated Standard and continue to be a viable strategy in Pioneer. Wilds of Eldraine retains the Food theme. Featuring numerous Sagas, Adventures, and Legendary Creatures like the Bird Hydra and The Goose Mother.

Wilds of Eldraine introduces “Bargain”. A keyword ability enabling you to sacrifice an artifact, enchantment, or token as you cast a spell for an added effect. Beseech the Mirror is a four-mana black sorcery that when cast with its Bargain cost, exiles a card from the deck face down. This card can be cast without paying its mana cost if its mana value is four or less. Serving as a potentially improved version of Demonic Tutor in specific scenarios. Beseech the Mirror could become a staple in Combo decks across all formats.
